Kindness to wild animals

Recently, on July 17, 2022, we received 01 Pygmy Slow Loris (Nycticebus pygmaeus) from Mr. Tran Dinh Thuy, residing in Y Yen district, Nam Dinh province.

Mr. Thuy and his rescued Loris

According to Mr. Thuy, in the morning his neighbor was picking longan in his garden, he discovered a strange animal clinging to the longan tree. He curiously tried to take the animal down to observe but unfortunately got bitten. Through research on internet, he learned that this is a Loris, a venomous animal, he quickly went to the hospital to be checked, fortunately the bite was not serious and he returned home after then.

Mr. Thuy, after knowing immediately brought the ill-fated Loris to our center to hand over. It was then around 8pm.

Thuy shared: “After researching information on internet and learned our that Lorises is endangered wild animal, the first thing I thought of was NOT to let it dies. It must live to be able to go back to the forest I found information about the Primate Rescue Center through a friend, and so I decided to quickly bring the Loris to the Rescue center so he can be treated well.”

We are really grateful that Thuy did not mind the long way to bring the Loris to the EPRC. Although the animal was not injured, but he is so weak and skinny.

It is known that the area where Thuy’s family lives is a densely populated area, near by the main road and quite far from the forest. Therefore, it is very likely that this individual was dropped on the way by someone, it then climbed up the longan tree at Thuy’s neighbor.

Currently, we are taking good care and monitoring the health of this Loris at our quarantine area. We will try to help him fully recover as quickly as possible to be then back into the wild.
